Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN): Closing price $286.21

On Sunday afternoon, the cloud provider Amazon Web Services experienced a 59-minute outage because of problems with its U.S.-EAST datacenter. The event began at around 4 p.m. Eastern Time subsequent to connectivity difficulties in the North Virginia datacenter, which led to higher API error rates in the region.

This in turn led to “degraded experience,” said the AWS status page, which caused a “small number of EC2 instances [becoming] unreachable due to packet loss in a single [availability zone].” Last week, the Services saw downtime that lasted some 25 minutes, but most websites running on the AWS cloud were not affected.
